I’m Alex Hafen, an industrial designer focused on furniture, home goods, and material-driven design. My work explores the relationship between functionality, comfort, and emotional connection, with an emphasis on creating adaptable objects that feel thoughtful and intuitive in everyday life.

With a background in Industrial Design from Rochester Institute of Technology and studies in museum studies and crafts/materials, I approach design through both a practical and narrative lens. I’m especially drawn to working with glass, wood, and textiles, and I enjoy exploring the contrast between structure and softness, and bringing joy through simple details.

Influenced in part by my Swiss heritage, I’m drawn to clean forms, modularity, material honesty, and understated detailing. My process combines research, prototyping, digital visualization, and hands-on making, with a focus on craftsmanship, user experience, and the emotional qualities of objects and spaces.
