Daypack Tote
Its convertible tote-to-backpack design is perfect for a multifaceted lifestyle. It could head to the mountains or beach for a day trip. The bag easily transforms into a backpack, accommodating essentials like water bottles, snacks, and extra layers. On weekdays the bag becomes a stylish tote, providing quick access to a work laptop, notebook, and other daily essentials.
Problem Statement
People with active, multifaceted lifestyles need a bag that transitions seamlessly between outdoor and urban settings. Most existing options sacrifice style for function or vice versa. There’s a need for a durable, adaptable carry solution that supports daily shifts while aligning with values like sustainability, organization, and ease of use.

I would like to create a bag that adapts to modern needs, inspired by the timeless boat-and-tote.

Quick sketches explore how to merge tote and backpack functions, test form and color, and focus on what features matter most to the user.
Prototyping
1. The paper model was too big, so for the second one and the pattern, I shrunk down the bag, but the strap concept worked.

2. The side pockets need darts so they can be bigger, so I made a new pattern.
​
3. From the muslin model, I learned the top needs another layer of stitching an inch down to hold the zipper in place, and also established the order of operations for sewing the bag together.
Process
• For the final bag, I bought duck canvas as the material
• I followed the steps I established through prototyping
• Added Piping to my seams
• Added a reinforcement patch where the back straps attached to the bag
• Once it was fully constructed, I waxed the fabric with a mix of beeswax and paraffin
