Trove Boxes

Jewelry storage and display often present challenges, as many people struggle to keep their collections organized. Important and everyday pieces frequently end up tangled together in a tray, box, or even tossed into a bag. As jewelry collections grow over time, they require a storage solution that adapts to their expansion while maintaining organization. Additionally, people tend to remove their jewelry in multiple locations, creating a need for a system that accommodates this habit rather than working against it. To address these issues, I aim to design a modular storage solution that can be placed in various spaces, making it both practical and adaptable to individual lifestyles

Research

In a survey of 153 people, I found that individuals with larger jewelry collections tend to store pieces in multiple locations, highlighting the need for a modular, decentralized system. Rather than a single box, users rely on trays, nightstands, closets, dressers, hanging displays, and even bathrooms to fit their routines.

Key findings:

  • Modularity matters: Users remove and store jewelry in various spots throughout the day.

  • Disorganization is common: Main issues include tangling, lack of visibility, and not enough space.

  • Growing collections: Most respondents owned 25+ pieces and rarely parted with them.

  • Diverse needs: Users often wear multiple jewelry types daily (rings, necklaces, earrings, etc.).

Design Plan

The final design is a modular jewelry organization system made up of five high-quality wooden boxes: two larger convex boxes (5"x4"x2.5") and three smaller concave boxes (4"x4"x2.5"). Each box includes two customizable inserts to keep different types of jewelry organized and tangle-free.

Interchangeable lids can attach to a hanging stand, turning them into display pieces for special items. The system is sold as a set, with the option to add more boxes as a collection grows. Designed to fit into different spaces, this flexible solution adapts to users’ routines while honoring the personal meaning of their jewelry.

Branding

I've created branded packaging for the modular jewelry system, with two options: a Large Box for the full set (5 boxes, 10 inserts, and 1 hanging lid) and a Small Box for individual add-ons. Each package features a shape around the logo that indicates the type of box inside.
